I squeezed my spirit to the size of a nit
And stowed it on your back
O great dog of the dawn.
There, I rode on your adventures
Finally content
To count them as my own
And as my weakness redoubled in crashing waves
I burrowed
I shrank,
In the envelopes of your universe I hid,
And knew only you.
I watched history speed by me
By the handfuls of generations
And I did not step into them
Hidden as I was
